Your images never leave your device
Make white or black pixels transparent — instant, browser-only, no AI
Drop any image onto removewhite.com and every white pixel becomes transparent immediately — no click needed. The tool evaluates each pixel's brightness and makes it transparent if it meets your Threshold setting. Pure pixel math. No AI, no object detection, no guessing. Nothing is uploaded to any server.
Use the sliders to define exactly what counts as white or black, soften edges with Feather, clean up ghosting with Edge Shrink, and strengthen thin ink with Darken Lines. Preview your result on any background color with the built-in color picker — separate from the export color picker, which bakes a background color into your downloaded file. The tool runs at near-perfect PageSpeed scores because there is no server round-trip: everything happens locally in your browser using the Canvas API.
Who uses removewhite.com?
Illustrators and drawers make their scanned ink or pencil work transparent for digital layouts without Photoshop. Tattoo artists make tattoo flash transparent for placement mockups — only the ink pixels remain. Bullet journalers layer hand-drawn art into digital spreads without white boxes. Anyone with a handwritten signature makes it transparent to overlay on documents and presentations. D&D and TTRPG players prepare transparent map tokens and overlays. The common thread: you have pixels that are white or black, and you want them gone — precisely, instantly, privately.
Frequently asked questions
Does this tool use AI to detect what's background?
No. removewhite.com uses pure pixel math — no AI, no machine learning, no object detection. It evaluates each pixel's brightness and makes it transparent if it meets your Threshold setting. That's it. This makes it faster, more predictable, and fully private.
How does the tool make pixels transparent?
Every pixel has a brightness value. The Threshold slider defines the cutoff: pixels brighter than the threshold become transparent (Remove White mode), or darker than the threshold (Remove Black mode). The Feather slider blends the edge between transparent and opaque pixels.
Do I need to click anything after dropping my image?
No. Just drop your image onto the tool. Every white (or black) pixel becomes transparent instantly, without any additional click. Adjust the sliders to fine-tune and download when it looks right.
Is my image uploaded to a server?
No. Everything runs locally in your browser using the Canvas API. Your image never leaves your device. Nothing is sent to removewhite.com's servers.
What is the Threshold slider?
Threshold defines what counts as white (or black). At 255, only pure white pixels become transparent. Lower it to also catch off-white, cream, or light grey pixels. Raise it if you're removing too much and losing detail.
What is Edge Shrink?
After making pixels transparent, a thin fringe of semi-transparent pixels can remain around lines — a white halo effect. Edge Shrink erodes those fringe pixels. Move it up 1–2 steps if you see ghosting around your lines.
What does Darken Lines do?
It strengthens thin or faint ink strokes by darkening pixels proportionally to their darkness and opacity. Useful for pencil sketches or light pen drawings where fine lines look washed out after white pixels are removed.
Can I preview my image on a colored background?
Yes. There's a color picker in the compare view that lets you change the preview background to any color — useful for checking how transparent areas look on different backgrounds. This preview color does not affect your download.
Can I export with a background color instead of transparent?
Yes. In the Edit panel, use Export background → Color to pick any color. That color is baked into your downloaded file. The default is Transparent.
How do I invert image colors?
Click Invert Colors in the Mode selector. Every pixel value is flipped instantly — black becomes white, white becomes black, colors become their complement. Useful for turning black line art into white line art for use on dark backgrounds.
What file formats can I upload?
PNG, JPG, WebP, and HEIC. Drop the file onto the tool or click to browse.
Is removewhite.com free?
Free to use with a small watermark on downloads. Remove the watermark with a day pass (€3.99, 24 hours) or year pass (€39.99, 365 days). No subscription. No auto-renewal.
