Make white or black pixels transparent in your browser

RemoveWhite helps you make white or black pixels transparent in drawings, signatures, scans and line art. It does not use AI, and it does not detect a subject or background. Everything runs locally in your browser, so your image stays on your device.

Use Threshold to control how much white or black is removed. Use Feather to soften edges, Edge Shrink to reduce halos, and Darken Lines to strengthen faint strokes. You can also preview the result on a different background color before downloading.

Best for

Signatures, drawings and scans, line art, and tattoo designs where you want white or black areas to become transparent quickly and cleanly.

RemoveWhite is especially useful when AI background removers are the wrong tool for the job.

Frequently asked questions

Does this tool use AI or subject detection?

No. RemoveWhite does not use AI or subject detection. It makes white or black pixels transparent based on your settings. Everything runs locally in your browser, so your image stays on your device.

Do I need to click anything after dropping my image?

No. Just drop your image onto the tool. Every white (or black) pixel becomes transparent instantly, without any additional click. Adjust the sliders to fine-tune and download when it looks right.

Is my image uploaded to a server?

No. Everything runs locally in your browser. Your image never leaves your device. Nothing is sent to removewhite.com's servers.

What does the Threshold slider do?

Threshold controls how much white or black is removed. Raise it or lower it until your image looks right.

What does the Feather slider do?

The Feather slider blends the edge between transparent and opaque pixels.

What is Edge Shrink?

After making pixels transparent, a thin fringe of semi-transparent pixels can remain around lines: a white halo effect. Edge Shrink erodes those fringe pixels. Move it up 1–2 steps if you see ghosting around your lines.

What does Darken Lines do?

It strengthens thin or faint ink strokes by darkening pixels proportionally to their darkness and opacity. Useful for pencil sketches or light pen drawings where fine lines look washed out after white pixels are removed.

Can I preview my image on a colored background?

Yes. There's a color picker in the compare view that lets you change the preview background to any color: useful for checking how transparent areas look on different backgrounds. This preview color does not affect your download.

Can I export with a background color instead of transparent?

Yes. In the Edit panel, use Export background → Color, to pick any color. That color will be baked into your downloaded file. The default is Transparent.

How do I invert image colors?

Click Invert Colors in the Mode selector. Black becomes white, white becomes black, and colors are reversed. Useful for turning black line art into white line art on dark backgrounds, or photo negatives into positives.

What file formats can I use?

PNG, JPG, WebP, and HEIC. Drop a file onto the tool or choose one from your device, including the Photos app or Files on your phone, tablet or computer.

Can I try it for free?

Yes. You can get 3 minutes to tweak and download one transparent image without watermark. Access link by email.

Is there a subscription?

No. You can buy a day pass (€3.99, 24 hours) or a year pass (€39.99, 365 days) for unlimited access and watermark-free downloads. No auto-renewal.
